Chapter 10 - The Family Restored

The fallout was swift and absolute.

Faced with an overwhelming mountain of forensic banking evidence and the hidden camera footage we uncovered from the estate, Beatrice’s high-priced lawyers abandoned her. She pleaded guilty to avoid a drawn-out trial and was sentenced to twenty-five years in a maximum-security federal prison. She lost her mansion, her diamonds, and her entire social standing, left to rot in isolation.

I sold the old estate and bought a massive, beautiful new home in the suburbs, far away from the toxic high society of the city.

Elena and I didn't rush things. We went to couples therapy. We slowly, carefully rebuilt the trust that my mother had so violently destroyed. But the love we shared had never truly died, and within a year, I asked her to marry me for the second time.

Chloe blossomed. She never had to worry about a locked door, a cold night, or an empty stomach ever again. Her cheeks filled out, her bright smile returned, and she ruled our new house with absolute joy.

One evening, as Elena and I stood on the back porch watching Chloe play in her massive new treehouse, Elena rested her head against my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her, finally feeling a profound, unshakeable peace. We had survived the darkest storm, and we had built a fortress of love that no one would ever tear down again.

Do you think a twenty-five-year prison sentence was enough justice for Beatrice, or did the cruel grandmother deserve worse?
