Chapter 7 - The Vow of Vengeance

“I am so sorry, Elena,” I wept, burying my face into her shoulder. “I was a fool. I was so busy with the company, I believed every lie she fed me. I failed you. I failed our daughter. I will spend the rest of my life making this right.”
Elena just clutched Chloe, crying into our daughter’s hair. “She told me you hated me. She said you wanted me dead.”
“I never stopped loving you,” I swore, looking deeply into her exhausted eyes. “And the monster who did this to us is going to pay for every single tear you both shed.”
I didn't let them stay in that horrible apartment for another minute. I brought Elena back to the luxury hotel suite, where we ordered every dessert on the room service menu for Chloe.
Watching my ex-wife and my daughter laugh together on the plush couch, my heart finally felt whole again. But the burning, lethal fury in my chest hadn't extinguished.
My cell phone buzzed. It was Marcus, my attorney.
“Richard,” Marcus said. “Beatrice just realized all her accounts are frozen. Her credit cards were declined at a luxury boutique this morning. She is furious. She is currently storming up to your corporate office to demand you reinstate her funds.”
A cold, dark smile spread across my face.

“Let her up to my office, Marcus,” I commanded smoothly. “And tell the detectives to wait in the conference room. It's time to end this.”
