Chapter 12 - Cassidy Had to Answer for the Fight at the Gala Too

Everett kicked Cassidy first.

Grabbed her collar.

Tried dragging her out.

That was documented by dozens of witnesses.

Cassidy still had to explain what followed.

She shoved him into the champagne table.

Later punched him once.

Then used his momentum to put him on the floor.

Investigators asked:

“Once you broke free, could you have disengaged?”

Cassidy answered honestly.

“Probably.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“Because he had just kicked me to the floor and thrown the only evidence I thought I had.”

“Were you angry?”

“Yes.”

She refused to turn veteran status or disability into moral immunity.

Everett’s aggression explained the confrontation.

It did not mean every choice Cassidy made afterward was automatically necessary.

That distinction made Conrad respect her more.
