Chapter 8 - Conrad Had Never Seen the Removal Order
After the gala confrontation, Conrad moved Cassidy into a secure conference room inside the same venue.
Everett was kept separately under supervision.
Not arrested dramatically.
Not dragged away.
Simply prevented from leaving until the situation could be properly referred.
Conrad placed the tags on the conference table.
“Show me the order.”
Cassidy handed him the copy she had carried for months.
He read it.
His jaw tightened.
“That’s my signature block.”
“You said you didn’t sign it.”
“I didn’t.”
“Could someone have signed for you?”
“Not this.”
Conrad pointed toward the authorization code.
“That code was retired three weeks before Red Hollow.”
Cassidy stared at him.
“So whoever created this used an old template.”
“Yes.”
“Would Everett know that?”
Conrad looked toward the closed door.
“He might.”
Then Cassidy asked:
“Who was the man in the ballroom?”
Conrad’s expression changed.
“I don’t know.”
Cassidy knew he was telling the truth.
That frightened her more.
