Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Honor

The toxic energy was completely dragged out of the gymnasium, leaving behind an atmosphere of profound respect and justice.

Chief Hayes, holding the black microphone, didn't walk back to his demonstration table. The massive, heavily bearded Navy SEAL walked directly over to eleven-year-old Matty.

Hayes dropped to one knee, bringing himself down to the boy's eye level. His fierce, intimidating face broke into a warm, incredibly genuine smile. He reached into the pocket of his tan tactical trousers and pulled out a heavy, solid bronze SEAL Team Challenge Coin—an extraordinarily rare token of ultimate respect.

He gently pressed the heavy coin into Matty's small hand.

"Your mom isn't a SEAL, Matty," Chief Hayes said softly, but the microphone carried his voice to every corner of the room. "But every single SEAL in my unit owes their life to her bravery. You are the son of a true American hero. You should be the proudest kid in this entire building."

Matty’s tear-streaked face completely transformed. A massive, beaming smile of pure, unadulterated joy and pride lit up his features. He clutched the bronze coin tightly to his chest, looking up at his beautiful, strong mother in her camouflage uniform.

The entire gymnasium erupted into a massive, deafening standing ovation. Three hundred students and teachers cheered wildly for Commander Sarah Merrick and her brave son.

Sarah smiled brightly, wrapping her arm around Matty's shoulders, completely secure in the knowledge that her child would never be ashamed of her again. The dark shadow of the arrogant bully was permanently banished, replaced by a kingdom built on absolute truth, undeniable courage, and perfect justice.

If you were Commander Merrick, would you have demanded an apology from the lieutenant, or was letting him get escorted out by security the absolute perfect revenge?
