Chapter 5 - The Terrifying Truth

Lieutenant Wyler’s smug, triumphant smile violently vanished. He physically staggered backward, his polished formal shoes squeaking against the hardwood floor as the massive Navy SEAL invaded his personal space.

"Do you have the slightest idea who you're talking to?" Chief Hayes roared, his broad shoulders squared aggressively as he pointed firmly toward Sarah Merrick.

"Chief, I was just—" Wyler stammered, his confident voice instantly cracking into a pathetic, high-pitched squeal.

"Shut your mouth, Lieutenant!" Hayes barked, his voice echoing with the lethal, unquestionable authority of a man who had survived a dozen war zones.

Chief Hayes turned his imposing gaze to the silent, terrified bleachers, ensuring every single student, teacher, and military guest heard his next words.

"This woman is Commander Sarah Merrick," Hayes announced loudly, his voice thick with profound, absolute reverence. "She is the single most elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialist in the United States military. She isn't a SEAL, because when my SEAL teams are trapped in a combat zone, surrounded by hidden explosives, she is the terrifyingly brave woman we call to save our lives."

The entire gymnasium went dead silent. The cinematic realism of the absolute respect radiating from the giant, muscular combat veteran completely paralyzed the room.

👉 Chief Hayes wasn't finished, and he was about to reveal exactly where Sarah had been thirty minutes before she walked into the school.
