Chapter 4 - The Fraudulent Claim
Nolan stumbled backward, his mind frantically spinning. He looked across the restaurant at Vanessa, who was watching the exchange with wide, greedy eyes, completely unaware that Nolan was about to ruin both of their lives.
"That's illegal!" Nolan shrieked, completely losing his composure in front of his CEO. "She developed that software while we were still married! That is marital property! I own half of that company!"
Graham didn't flinch. He picked up his wineglass, completely unfazed by the screaming mid-level analyst.
"You really should read the documents you sign, Nolan," Graham advised coldly.
"What are you talking about?!" Nolan panicked.
Emma gracefully rested her hands on her pregnant stomach, looking up at him with absolute, unbreakable confidence.
"When you rushed the divorce proceedings so you could propose to Vanessa," Emma explained smoothly, "you forced me to sign a blanket asset forfeiture agreement. You wanted to make sure I couldn't touch the offshore accounts where you hid our life savings."
Nolan swallowed hard, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.
"That agreement," Emma continued, her voice ringing with unstoppable justice, "explicitly stated that all intellectual property, business ventures, and future earnings developed independently by either party prior to the finalization date would remain entirely separate."
Nolan realized his own greedy, aggressive legal strategy had just violently backfired. He had completely locked himself out of forty million dollars just to protect a few hundred thousand.
"I'll sue you!" Nolan roared, slamming his fist onto the white tablecloth. "I will drag you through court for years! I am the father of that child!"
Graham stood up to his full, towering height. The terrifying billionaire completely took over.
