Chapter 3 - The Ironclad Contract

Two days later, Claire sat in the cold, modern glass office of Ethan’s high-powered corporate attorney.
Ethan slid a thick, heavily heavily biased prenuptial agreement across the mahogany desk. He looked incredibly proud of himself, adjusting his burgundy tie as he leaned back in his leather chair. Diane sat beside him, watching Claire like a hawk.
"The terms are incredibly simple," Ethan explained smoothly, his voice dripping with arrogant condescension. "What’s mine stays mine. What’s yours stays yours. In the event of a divorce, you are entitled to absolutely zero alimony, no claim to my real estate, and no shares in my tech company. Sign it."
The lawyer looked slightly uncomfortable. "Ms. Callahan, I highly advise you to have independent counsel review this document. It leaves you with absolutely nothing."
"She doesn't need counsel," Diane snapped immediately. "If she actually loves my son, she will sign it right now."
Claire didn't argue. She didn't beg for a fairer deal.
She picked up the heavy gold pen from the desk. With slow, deliberate, and incredibly elegant movements, Claire signed her name on every single dotted line. She handed the contract back to Ethan with a polite, perfectly restrained smile.
"There," Claire whispered. "What is mine stays mine."
