Chapter 6 - The Final Insult

The morning of the corporate takeover, Diane showed up at Claire’s modest rented apartment.
The older woman wore an expensive white coat, looking around the small living room with pure, unfiltered disgust. She dropped a secondary legal document onto Claire’s cheap coffee table.
"Ethan is dealing with massive corporate stress today," Diane sneered, crossing her arms. "I had his lawyers draft a post-nuptial non-disclosure agreement. It states that if he ever leaves you, you are legally forbidden from speaking to the press about his business or his private life. Sign it."
Claire looked at the NDA. It was the ultimate, humiliating attempt to silence a woman they viewed as entirely disposable.
"He really wants to ensure I take nothing from him," Claire observed quietly, keeping her facial micro-expressions perfectly neutral.
"You are a charity case, Claire," Diane laughed cruelly, leaning closer. "You hit the jackpot when my son proposed. The least you can do is guarantee you won't embarrass us when he eventually upgrades to a woman of our social class."
Claire didn't cry. She didn't scream.
She picked up a pen and smoothly signed the NDA.

"You're absolutely right, Diane," Claire whispered, handing the paper back with a chilling, calm smile. "Silence is incredibly valuable."
👉 Diane walked out of the apartment feeling like a queen, entirely unaware that she had just sealed her own doom.
