Chapter 5 - The Underboss Revealed

The apartment door swung open, hitting the narrow hallway wall with a loud thud.
Stepping into the pale winter daylight was Marcus.
Marcus was forty years old, wearing an expensive, tailored gray suit and a gold watch. He wasn't just some random, abusive street thug. He was Rhett Valin’s highly trusted, incredibly powerful Underboss. He managed Rhett’s massive shipping logistics, and he had spent the last two years pretending to be a loyal, respectful associate.
Marcus strutted into the apartment with a toxic, arrogant smirk, fully expecting to find his battered wife cowering in the corner.
"Isa, I told you I'd be back—" Marcus began cruelly.
He stopped completely dead in his tracks.
The arrogant smirk violently vanished from his face. All the color instantly drained from his perfectly contoured features, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost.
Standing exactly six feet in front of him, radiating the absolute, terrifying aura of a grim reaper, was his billionaire boss.
"Rhett..." Marcus gasped, physically staggering backward into the doorframe. He completely panicked, desperately trying to construct a lie. "Boss! What are you doing here? I... I caught her stealing from the estate! I came here to interrogate her for you!"
Rhett didn't yell. A quick, violent outburst was far too generous for a man who beat women in the dark.
"She wasn't stealing, Marcus," Rhett stated smoothly, his voice dropping into a dark, freezing register. "But you were."
