Chapter 8 - The True Protector

Marcus let out a guttural, agonizing shriek of absolute terror as the enforcers dragged him down the hallway, permanently swallowing his toxic existence into violent ruin.
The threat was entirely neutralized. The empire was secure.
The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the small Chicago apartment. The room was perfectly quiet, bathed in the pale winter daylight.
Isa was still sitting on the floor, shivering beneath Rhett’s expensive black coat. She expected to be fired immediately, terrified that the billionaire boss would blame her for bringing the traitor into his inner circle.
Rhett walked slowly back toward her.
The terrifying, cold executioner completely vanished from his dark eyes. He looked exhausted, deeply vulnerable, and his sharp features were softened with a profound, overwhelming gentleness.
He didn't look at her like a housekeeper. He looked at her like an equal.
He dropped to one knee right on the cheap linoleum floor, entirely ignoring his expensive suit, and carefully reached out to support her uninjured shoulder.
"I am so incredibly sorry you had to hide from him, Isa," Rhett whispered, his deep voice thick with genuine emotion. "You never have to run again."
Isa swallowed hard, tears of pure relief flooding her expressive brown eyes. "I just wanted to work. I just wanted to be safe, Mr. Valin."
