Chapter 1 - The Shattered Gift
The wrapped gift box hit the polished marble floor with a sickening, violent crash.
The grand, luxurious New York fine dining restaurant was bathed in the warm, expensive glow of crystal chandeliers. But the elegant atmosphere was completely shattered by a brutal, public humiliation.
Claire, a thirty-six-year-old woman wearing a stunning white lace long-sleeve dress with her brunette hair pulled into an elegant updo, dropped heavily to her knees.
Her trembling hands reached out across the cold marble, desperately trying to gather the pieces of a beautiful, shattered silver watch that had spilled from the ruined box.
Looming aggressively over her was her younger brother, Adam.
Adam was in his early thirties, wearing a tailored navy blue suit with an unbuttoned white shirt. His handsome face was twisted into a mask of pure, toxic arrogance. He had just violently snatched the gift out of Claire’s hands and hurled it onto the ground in front of dozens of wealthy patrons.
"Worry about your own bills before buying presents!" Adam shouted loudly, his cruel, mocking voice echoing across the crisp white tablecloths.
