Chapter 7 - The Emergency Board Meeting

Adam burst through the heavy mahogany doors of the executive boardroom, breathless and furious.
"What the hell is going on here?!" Adam shrieked, his voice echoing across the massive room.
Sitting around the long table were the twelve members of his board of directors. They all looked incredibly pale and terrified. Sitting comfortably at the back of the room were his mother and Vanessa, who had arrived early to use Adam’s corporate credit card for a luxury shopping spree.
Standing at the head of the table was Mr. Hale. The sixty-year-old attorney wore a razor-sharp gray suit and held a thick blue legal folder.
"Ah, Mr. Mercer. You're trespassing," Mr. Hale stated clinically, his voice cutting through the air like a frozen blade.
"I am the CEO!" Adam screamed, slamming his hands down on the mahogany table. "Who do you think you are?!"
"I am the legal representative for Vanguard Holdings," Mr. Hale replied smoothly. "The anonymous equity firm that has been secretly funding your failing payroll, your mortgage, and your pathetic lifestyle for the past four years."
Vanessa stopped typing on her smartphone. Their mother lowered her coffee cup, her eyes widening in absolute horror.

"At midnight last night," Mr. Hale continued ruthlessly, "Vanguard Holdings formally initiated a hostile takeover. They called in your massive eighty-million-dollar debt. Since you cannot pay it, they have legally seized all of your corporate and personal assets. You are entirely bankrupt."
👉 Adam dropped to his knees in pure terror, demanding to speak to the anonymous investor who just ruined him.
