Chapter 4 - The Unbroken Silence

Claire slowly stood up from the marble floor.
She didn't dust off her beautiful white lace dress. She didn't scream at her mother. She didn't try to snatch Vanessa’s smartphone out of her hands.
The natural micro-expressions on her delicate face projected a chilling, untouchable calmness. She stood perfectly straight, clutching the broken silver watch in her palm.
"Are you going to cry, Claire?" Vanessa taunted from behind her glowing screen. "Are you going to ask Adam for a loan to fix your little watch?"
Claire completely ignored the laughter.
She looked dead at her toxic mother, her vain younger sister, and finally, at the arrogant brother who had just shattered the last remaining ounce of her familial love.
She maintained a chilling, unbroken silence. She didn't offer a single word of defense, knowing that engaging with narcissists was a complete waste of breath.
With absolute, cinematic grace, Claire simply turned her back on her family.
