Chapter 4 - The Cold Realization

The tears brimming in Camila’s eyes completely evaporated.

A quiet, chilling, and heavily calculated calmness settled over her delicate features. Her natural micro-expressions shifted from a heartbroken mother to a terrifying, untouchable apex predator.

She tightened her grip on her brown leather purse.

"I understand," Camila said quietly. Her voice was perfectly steady, completely devoid of any human warmth.

Theo smirked, crossing his arms over his white v-neck sweater, entirely convinced he had just successfully dominated his mother. Khloe’s smile widened, already imagining the contractors tearing down Camila's bedroom walls.

"Good," Theo scoffed arrogantly. "Now get out. I'll have the movers send your cheap furniture to whatever cheap apartment you can afford on your social security checks."

Camila didn't argue. She didn't beg to stay.

She walked over to Hugo, leaned down, and kissed the top of the little boy's head. "I will see you very soon, my sweet boy," she whispered softly.

Then, Camila turned her back on her ungrateful son. She walked out of the dining room with absolute, cinematic dignity, her footsteps echoing down the hardwood hallway until the heavy front door clicked shut.
