Chapter 6 - The Declined Cards

The next morning, the bright American sun reflected beautifully through the massive windows of the suburban estate.

Khloe was sitting at the kitchen island in her silk robe, scrolling happily on her laptop. She was already ordering thirty thousand dollars worth of custom luxury cabinetry for her new closet, using Theo’s black corporate credit card.

She clicked purchase.

Transaction Declined.

Khloe frowned in annoyance. She assumed it was a simple bank fraud alert. She quickly typed in her personal platinum card.

Transaction Declined. Account Frozen.

"Theo!" Khloe yelled aggressively toward the living room. "Call the bank! Both of our cards are declining, and I need to secure the contractor before noon!"

Theo walked into the kitchen, looking completely panicked. He was staring at his own smartphone, his face the color of wet ash.

"It's not just the cards, Khloe," Theo stammered, his voice shaking wildly. "My CFO just called. Our primary corporate investor pulled out at midnight. The company accounts are entirely frozen pending a massive audit. We missed payroll. We literally have zero dollars."

Khloe’s jaw dropped in sheer, unadulterated horror.
