Chapter 2 - The Crushing Shame

The cinematic tension in the quiet bakery was absolutely suffocating.

A medium shot captured Naomi looking down at the small pile of quarters and dimes in her trembling hand. She realized with a sinking, humiliating dread that she was completely short. She couldn't even afford a simple breakfast sandwich for her children.

Naomi desperately tried to hide her shame, turning her body slightly to block the twins' view of her empty wallet.

"Mommy has enough for both of you," Naomi whispered, her voice cracking with the agonizing lie of a mother trying to protect her children from the harsh reality of poverty.

Right behind her, Preston stood completely motionless in his expensive charcoal suit.

To understand the intense, paralyzing disbelief radiating from the billionaire, one had to look at the brutal divorce he had orchestrated. Five years ago, Preston had been convinced by his toxic mother that Naomi was a manipulative gold digger who had faked a pregnancy just to secure his fortune. Disgusted and arrogant, Preston had immediately filed for divorce, locking her out of his accounts and forcing her onto the street without a single cent.

He hadn't seen or spoken to her since. He had genuinely believed she wasn't pregnant.

But as Preston stood in the bakery, watching Naomi desperately counting pennies to feed two toddlers, the arrogant billionaire illusion completely shattered.

👉 Preston was about to walk away, completely unaware that one of the twins was about to make a very familiar expression.
