Chapter 9 - The Father's Promise

Preston slowly stood up, stepping quietly into the small apartment.

Eli and Theo looked up, their dark curly hair messy, their matching navy hoodies slightly worn. They didn't know who the towering man in the charcoal suit was, but they stared at him with intense, innocent curiosity.

Preston didn't care about his expensive suit. He didn't care about his corporate mergers or his massive bank accounts. He slowly walked over to the worn mattress and dropped to his knees right in front of his identical twin boys.

"Hi," Preston whispered, his voice trembling violently as he desperately tried to hold back a sob.

"Hi," Theo replied softly, holding out a small piece of his bagel. "Are you hungry?"

The innocent, profoundly generous gesture completely shattered the billionaire's heart. He gently took the piece of bread, tears streaming freely down his face.

"I'm your dad," Preston whispered, looking back and forth between his two beautiful sons. "And I am so, so sorry it took me this long to find you."

Naomi stood in the doorway, quietly crying. She didn't stop him from hugging the boys. She watched as Preston wrapped his massive, muscular arms around Eli and Theo, pulling them tightly against his chest, holding them with a fierce, unbreakable protection that he had been entirely denied for four years.
