Chapter 8 - The Total Surrender

Preston pulled a thick, official legal document from his tailored jacket and slid it slowly through the gap in the door.

"I fired my mother," Preston explained, his voice thick with overwhelming emotion. "She is completely cut off, completely bankrupt, and permanently banished from the family. She will never hurt you or the boys again."

Naomi looked down at the document. It wasn't a custody battle or a brutal non-disclosure agreement. It was a complete, irrevocable transfer of fifty percent of the Vance billionaire empire directly into Naomi's name.

"I don't want your money, Preston," Naomi wept, entirely refusing to pick up the paper. "I just want to be left alone."

"It's not my money anymore, Naomi. It's yours," Preston said softly, looking up into her expressive, exhausted eyes. "You don't have to forgive me. You don't ever have to speak to me again if you don't want to. But you and my sons are never going to spend another day struggling to buy a sandwich. You are going to have absolutely everything."

The cinematic tension in the dark hallway slowly began to melt. Naomi looked at the billionaire kneeling on the dirty floor. He wasn't the arrogant, cold monster who had thrown her out five years ago. He was a completely broken, fiercely protective father who had finally found his missing soul.

Slowly, carefully, Naomi unlatched the cheap security chain.
