Chapter 7 - The Pathetic Husband

"Baby, thank God!" Grant lied flawlessly, tears immediately welling in his eyes. He dropped to his knees on the hard linoleum floor, completely humiliating himself in public. "I was so terrified! I thought I was going to lose you! The doctors wouldn't tell me anything!"
Claire didn't scream. She didn't throw a childish tantrum. She simply stared down at the pathetic, weeping monster kneeling at her feet.
"I told you to stop pretending, Grant," Claire commanded smoothly, completely devoid of human mercy.
"I'm not pretending!" Grant wailed hysterically, desperately trying to grab the edge of her wheelchair. "I love you! I was just trying to secure the company while you were in surgery! I swear on my life!"
Tessa stood trembling in the background, her red dress swishing as she frantically looked for an exit. She realized the multi-million-dollar plan had completely, catastrophically failed.
"You don't get to talk about my company," Claire whispered coldly, her eyes flashing with lethal danger. "And you certainly don't get to swear on your life when you tried to take mine."

Grant stopped breathing. All the color violently drained from his face. His mouth opened and closed like a dying fish, but absolutely no sound came out.
👉 Claire reached into her lap with her one good hand, preparing to drop the ultimate, undeniable proof of his crime.
