Chapter 5 - The Stolen Inventory

Officer Bell dropped the bolt cutters and grabbed the handle of the white door.

He unlatched it and slowly pulled the heavy door open.

A medium close-up captured the officer’s face. He stared down into the darkness of the basement. His calm, highly professional demeanor completely, violently drained away into pure, breathless, paralyzing shock.

Hannah stepped forward, keeping Lily shielded behind her back, and looked down the stairs.

The basement wasn't filled with old furniture or holiday decorations.

It was completely packed, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, with hundreds of massive, military-grade storage crates, highly advanced tactical drones, and thousands of rounds of heavily classified, stolen military ammunition.

Hannah stopped breathing. The air in her lungs violently turned to absolute ice.

She recognized the specific serial numbers stamped on the heavy green crates. They were from her own heavily secured military base.

Her husband hadn't just been neglecting their daughter. For the last six months, Derek had been using her high-level security clearance codes to systematically bypass the base's logistics network, stealing millions of dollars worth of highly classified military hardware and stockpiling it in their own basement to sell to a violent international cartel.
