Chapter 10 - The True Heir

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the luxurious hotel ballroom.

Nora didn't cry. She stood tall in her wine-stained emerald silk gown, looking out at the beautiful Chicago skyline through the massive windows. She had protected her grandmother's legacy, destroyed the monster who assaulted her, and completely secured the safety of her unborn child.

She pressed her hand protectively against her stomach one last time, smiling warmly.

In the months that followed, Dominic and Isabeau completely turned on each other in federal court. They were both found guilty. Dominic was sentenced to thirty years in a maximum-security penitentiary, stripped of his entire corporate empire. Isabeau was sentenced to fifteen years for money laundering.

Nora finalized her divorce flawlessly. Using her brilliant financial skills and the massive whistleblower reward she received from the SEC, she launched her own highly successful corporate consulting firm.

A year later, the same grand ballroom in Chicago was rented out again. But it wasn't a toxic gala.

It was a private, joyous celebration for her consulting firm’s first anniversary.

Nora stood near the crystal chandeliers, wearing a breathtaking, elegant white pantsuit. She wasn't holding a flash drive anymore. In her arms, she held a beautiful, healthy three-month-old baby girl.

Nora smiled brightly, looking at her daughter, knowing that true power isn't found in enduring a toxic billionaire's abuse—it is found in having the courage to tear down his empire and build a beautiful, safe world for yourself.

Do you think thirty years in prison was enough justice for Dominic, or did the cruel husband deserve a harsher punishment for slapping his pregnant wife?
