Chapter 8 - The Cornered Rats

"Don't even try it," a female federal agent snapped, stepping out from the crowd and grabbing Isabeau’s wrist with a grip like iron.

"Get your hands off me!" Isabeau wailed like a feral banshee, kicking her expensive heels against the marble floor. "I didn't know the money was stolen! I am a victim! He tricked me into taking the fifty million!"

"We have copies of your personal bank statements," the agent replied coldly, ripping the vintage emerald ring right off Isabeau’s finger. "You are being indicted as a co-conspirator in federal wire fraud and money laundering."

The agent shoved the screaming woman in the gold sequined dress into the arms of two other officers, who immediately slapped heavy steel handcuffs on her wrists.

Dominic watched his first love get violently arrested, his billionaire empire collapsing into dust right in front of the Chicago skyline.

He dropped to his knees on the marble floor, completely humiliated, landing right in the puddle of spilled red wine. The wine stained his crisp white shirt, making him look like a ruined, pathetic monster.

"Nora, please!" Dominic begged pathetically, tears of pure, desperate terror streaming down his handsome face. "I'm your husband! I love you! I'll give you everything back! Have mercy!"
