Chapter 3 - The Public Severance

The suffocating silence of the ballroom pressed against my skin, but the girl who used to tiptoe around the Lake Forest mansion was completely dead.

I violently ripped my arm out of Dominic's grip. The sudden, forceful movement shocked him so deeply he actually took a half-step backward.

"I was your wife," I corrected, my voice echoing crystal clear across the dead-silent room. "At 8:17 tonight, you looked me in the eye and told me you didn't want me. You told me you never did. So I am taking you at your word, Dominic. We are done."

All the color drained from Dominic's handsome face. The untouchable, terrifying mafia boss had just been publicly discarded by the quiet, submissive woman he thought he owned.

Adrian Cross let out a low, booming laugh that echoed off the crystal chandeliers.

"You really are a blind, arrogant fool, Dominic," Adrian mocked, stepping closer to me. "You bought a queen to pay for a rat's debt, and you treated her like garbage. But the funniest part? You've been punishing the wrong bloodline for eight months."

Dominic’s expression instantly shifted from possessive rage to absolute, lethal confusion.

"What are you talking about?" Dominic demanded, his hands dropping to his sides.

"Your father’s murder," Adrian stated coldly. "You married Claire to humiliate her father because you thought he was the informant who sold out the Russo family to the feds last year."

Dominic’s chest heaved. That was the secret he had kept from me. That was why he hated me. He thought my father was a traitor, and I was just a prisoner of war.

Adrian turned to me and offered his arm. "Come with me to my office, Claire. It's time you saw what your husband is really made of."

👉 Dominic lunged forward to stop us, but the devastating truth waiting inside the vault would completely destroy his mind.
