Chapter 4 - The Hidden Vault

Adrian’s heavy security detail instantly formed a human wall, completely blocking Dominic from following us.

I took Adrian's arm, my red silk dress flowing behind me as he led me up the sweeping grand staircase and into his private, heavily fortified office. The heavy steel doors locked behind us, sealing out the chaos of the ballroom below.

Adrian walked directly to a biometric safe hidden behind a massive painting. He opened it and pulled out a small, black encrypted flash drive.

He set it on the mahogany desk between us.

"Your father is a degenerate gambler, Claire," Adrian said softly, dropping his arrogant persona. "But he is not a rat. He never sold out the Russo family."

I stared at the black drive, my heart hammering violently against my ribs. "Then why did Dominic's family buy his debt? Why did they force the marriage?"

"Because the real traitor needed a scapegoat," Adrian explained, his eyes locking onto mine with absolute, cinematic realism. "Dominic’s father was murdered by an informant. Dominic's uncle, Silas Russo, framed your father for the leak. Silas bought the debt, arranged the marriage, and kept your family close so your father would never dare to speak the truth."

The horrific, apocalyptic reality crashed down on me.

I wasn't sold to pay a debt. I was sold to protect my brother from a monster, only to be handed directly to another one. Dominic had spent eight months treating me like a worthless parasite, completely unaware that his own uncle was the man who actually killed his father.

Adrian pushed the flash drive across the desk.

"This drive contains the original audio recordings of Silas making the deal with the feds," Adrian stated.

👉 I wrapped my fingers around the evidence, entirely prepared to walk downstairs and unleash hell on the man who broke my heart.
