Chapter 8 - The Bloody Cleanup

The next forty-eight hours in Chicago were an absolute, apocalyptic bloodbath.
Dominic didn't go home to the Lake Forest mansion. He became a hollow, terrifying monster driven entirely by grief and volcanic rage. He took the audio file and summoned every loyal lieutenant in the syndicate.
By midnight, Dominic’s enforcers breached Uncle Silas’s heavily fortified compound. There were no negotiations. There were no warnings. Dominic personally dragged his traitorous uncle out of his bed and executed him in the center of his own living room, completely eradicating the faction that had murdered his father and ruined his marriage.
He seized total, absolute control of the entire Chicago underworld. He became the wealthiest, most feared boss in the history of the city.
But when the smoke cleared and the bodies were buried, Dominic finally returned to the Lake Forest mansion.
He opened the heavy front doors. The massive house was suffocatingly quiet. He walked slowly into the dining room.
The table was exactly as I had left it. The good china, the linen napkins, the expensive wine, and two plates of cold, untouched risotto.
Dominic sat down in the chair I had pulled out for him. He stared at the empty seat across from him, burying his face in his hands, weeping in the dark, empty mansion he had fought so hard to protect. He had won the war, but he had lost his entire universe.

He couldn't live without me. He contacted his lawyers and prepared an offer that no sane human being could ever refuse.
👉 A month later, Dominic arranged a final meeting to beg for his wife back, entirely blind to the trap I had built.
