Chapter 7 - The Final Rejection

"Please, Claire," Dominic sobbed, completely abandoning his terrifying mafia persona. He didn't care that his rival, Adrian, was watching him break. "I'll kill Silas tonight. I'll burn his entire faction to the ground. I will give you the world. Just come home with me. Let me make this right!"

He finally realized he loved me. He had fought it for eight months, burying his feelings under layers of false vengeance and toxic pride, and now that the truth was exposed, he was desperate to claim me.

I slowly reached down and gently pried his trembling fingers off the silk fabric of my red dress.

"You told me you didn't want me, Dominic," I whispered, my voice completely devoid of human mercy. "You told me at 8:17 tonight. And the thing about rejection is... it's permanent once the other person stops begging."

Dominic gasped, the absolute finality of my words hitting him with the kinetic force of a freight train.

I turned my back on the broken mafia boss. I looked at Adrian Cross.

"Adrian, I need a secure car to take me to my brother's apartment," I stated calmly.

"Of course, Claire," Adrian smiled with genuine respect. "My men will ensure you are entirely untouchable."

I walked out of the ruined office. I didn't look back at Dominic. I left him kneeling on the floor, surrounded by his armed guards, drowning in the agonizing reality that he had completely destroyed his own salvation.
