Chapter 2 - The Audacity

The cinematic tension in the driveway was absolutely suffocating. The two German Shepherds sat perfectly still beside Paige, their intelligent, golden eyes locked onto the strangers shaking their gate.
Diane leaned forward, shoving her arm through the iron bars and aggressively pointing her finger directly at Paige’s face.
"Don't embarrass me in front of the movers!" Diane barked with absolute, delusional authority. "We're taking the downstairs suite. The kids can share the guest house."
Standing right behind Diane was Mallory, Paige’s thirty-one-year-old twin sister. She wore an olive green sweater, her blonde-brown hair tied in a high messy bun. She looked past Paige, her eyes scanning the sprawling, multi-million-dollar American estate with greedy, unapologetic entitlement. She fully expected her sister to submit.
"You have plenty of room, Paige," Mallory scoffed, rolling her eyes as if Paige were merely an inconvenience. "This should be easy for you. Just punch in the code."
Next to Mallory was Grant, her husband. He was a man in his thirties with unshaven stubble, wearing a grey hoodie and a dark baseball cap. He leaned casually against the iron bars, looking toward the backyard with a presumptuous, arrogant smirk.
"I'll set up my business in your workshop," Grant stated casually, completely ignoring the fact that they hadn't been invited. "I need the space for my new startup."

Paige stared at them. They hadn't called her in twelve years. And now, they had literally shown up with a packed moving van, expecting her to hand over the keys to her sanctuary.
