Chapter 8 - The Federal Checkmate

Paige pulled out her sleek smartphone. She didn't unlock the gate. She didn't raise her voice.

"Twelve years ago, I didn't know how to fight back," Paige stated coldly, ensuring her words echoed perfectly across the driveway. "But a year ago, when I realized you were trying to find my address, I hired one of the best corporate private investigators in the state."

The color violently drained from Mallory’s face. She looked like she had just seen a ghost.

"I know you forged my signature, Mallory," Paige continued, locking her dark eyes entirely onto her terrified twin sister. "My investigator pulled the original bank surveillance footage from the archive. We have video of you and Diane walking into the branch, handing the teller this exact forged slip, and walking out with a cashier's check made out to Grant's wedding venue."

Grant spun around, staring at his wife in absolute, paralyzing horror. "You committed bank fraud?! You told me your mother gave you that money!"

"Shut up, Grant!" Mallory shrieked, backing away from the gate, her hands trembling violently.

"There is no statute of limitations on massive federal bank fraud when the victim was a minor at the time the trust was established," Paige explained flawlessly, her voice ringing with unstoppable, terrifying justice. "My lawyers have had the prosecution file ready for six months. We were just waiting for you to try and contact me."

Diane stumbled backward, dropping the forged withdrawal slip onto the concrete driveway. The arrogant, demanding matriarch was completely, violently shattered.
