Chapter 5 - The Digital Weapon

I didn't cry. The woman who used to weep and beg for their approval died the second Patricia’s hand struck my face.

I reached into the pocket of my slacks and pulled out my smartphone. My cheek was throbbing, but my hands were completely, terrifyingly steady.

I didn't open a delivery app. I opened my encrypted email inbox.

At 9:00 AM that morning, my private attorney and forensic accountant, Daniel Mercer, had sent me a heavily documented file. I had hired Daniel three weeks ago when I noticed strange, unexplainable withdrawals from my secondary business accounts.

I opened the PDF attachment.

It contained copies of a forged commercial loan application. Garrison had secretly attempted to take out a $150,000 line of credit to fund Lydia’s failing catering business. But more horrifyingly, the documents proved that Garrison had tried to use the equity of our house as the primary collateral for the loan.

He had forged my signature on the preliminary paperwork.

He had actively tried to risk the roof over my head to fund his sister's vanity project, all while treating me like absolute garbage.

I stared at the glowing screen. The slow-roasted ribs weren't the only things Lydia was trying to steal from me.

I locked my phone, wiped a single drop of sweat from my brow, and walked out of the kitchen.

👉 The family was laughing and drinking in the living room, completely unaware that an apocalyptic storm had just entered the room.
