Chapter 6 - The Living Room Stage

The sprawling living room was packed. Twenty relatives were holding crystal glasses, laughing loudly, and congratulating Garrison on his promotion.
Patricia was holding court near the fireplace, beaming with toxic pride.
"Garrison has worked so hard for this house," Patricia bragged loudly to an uncle. "He is such an incredible provider. We are just so blessed."
I walked to the center of the room. I didn't scream. I didn't throw anything. The cinematic realism of my calm, absolute authority instantly commanded the room's attention.
"Excuse me," I said, my voice cutting through the ambient chatter like a freshly sharpened scalpel.
The relatives turned to look at me. Patricia’s smile vanished, replaced by a vicious glare. Garrison rolled his eyes, clearly terrified I was about to complain about the slap.
"Seraphina, go back to the kitchen," Garrison hissed under his breath, taking a threatening step toward me.
I completely ignored him. I picked up the remote control from the coffee table and aimed it at the massive, 75-inch smart TV mounted above the fireplace. I synced my smartphone to the screen.
"Actually, Garrison," I announced clearly, making sure every single person in the room heard me. "I think everyone should see the paperwork for Lydia's new catering business."
