Chapter 7 - The Final Straw

"You little traitor!" Dana screamed at Mason, completely losing her mind. She lunged forward, raising her hand as if she were going to strike her own son for exposing her.

But Adam moved faster.

He stepped directly between Dana and the children, his broad shoulders entirely blocking her path. The cowardly, quiet father who had spent three years avoiding conflict had finally snapped. He grabbed Dana by the wrist, stopping her mid-air.

"Don't you ever try to touch him," Adam growled, his voice vibrating with a terrifying, protective rage.

He shoved Dana's hand away as if touching her disgusted him. "You stole from my mother. You embezzled from my daughter’s college fund. And you bought your son luxury items using stolen money, right in front of my face."

Dana began to hyperventilate, tears of panic finally spilling over her cheeks. "Adam, please! I was going to put the money back! My credit cards were maxed out! I just wanted Mason to have a good Christmas!"

"Mason is a good kid," Ruth said coldly from the sofa, adjusting her burgundy cardigan. "It’s a miracle he didn't turn into a monster like you."
