Chapter 3 - The Maid's Quarters

"Shut your mouth, you lying peasant!" Dante roared, entirely abandoning his sophisticated persona.

Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, Dante lunged forward, reaching inside his navy suit jacket for a concealed weapon. He fully intended to execute the maid right there in the dining room to silence her permanently.

It was the absolute worst mistake of his life.

Before Dante’s fingers could even touch the grip of his gun, Vincent moved with blinding, terrifying speed. The boss's massive hand shot out, clamping around Dante’s throat like a steel vise. Vincent violently slammed his own brother backward against a heavy oak pillar, completely lifting him two inches off the floor.

"If you touch your weapon, I will snap your neck," Vincent promised coldly, his eyes pitch black.

Two of Vincent’s elite, heavily armed bodyguards immediately stepped out of the shadows, aiming their suppressed weapons directly at Dante.

Vincent dropped his gasping brother to the floor. "Keep him here," he commanded the guards. "If he moves, shoot him in the knee."

Vincent turned back to Clara, who was hugging Ellie tightly to her chest, shielding the little girl's eyes from the violence.

"Take me to the packages, Clara," Vincent requested gently, offering his large, tattooed hand to help her stand up.

Clara nodded, her hands shaking violently. She led the towering mafia boss out of the dining room, down the long, quiet hallway, and into the small, humble servant’s quarters located at the back of the massive estate.

Clara walked over to her small twin bed. She dropped to her knees, pulled back the cheap rug, and used her fingernails to pry up a loose wooden floorboard.
