Chapter 9 - The Rightful Place

Vincent stood up to his full height. He looked at Clara, his intense gray eyes filled with a deep, undeniable admiration.

"Your job as a housekeeper ended the second you decided to risk your life to save mine," Vincent stated firmly, his deep voice leaving absolutely no room for argument.

He reached into his pocket and placed a heavy, solid black titanium keycard on the cheap wooden dresser.

"You are no longer the hired help, Clara," Vincent vowed, the absolute power of his massive wealth backing every single syllable. "You are moving out of this room tonight. I am elevating you to the master wing of this estate. You will have a private suite, a personal security detail, and full authority over this household."

Clara gasped, covering her mouth with her trembling hands.

"I am tripling what I paid you, and placing it into a secure trust for Ellie's future," Vincent continued softly. "You stood in the dark and protected me. Now, it is my turn to stand in the light and protect you. Nobody will ever, ever raise a hand to you or your daughter again."

Tears of pure, unadulterated relief and joy spilled down Clara’s cheeks. She hadn't just survived a deadly conspiracy; she had secured a beautiful, untouchable future for her child.

She stood up from the bed, closing the distance between them. She didn't bow her head. She looked up at the legendary mafia boss, finally seeing the deeply good man hiding beneath the violent tattoos.
