Chapter 8 - The Stepmother's Motive

The air in the hallway turned incredibly toxic.

David slowly stood up from the hardwood floor. The gentle, heartbroken father completely vanished. In his place stood a cold, calculating, and intensely dangerous man who had just realized he was married to a sociopathic monster.

He didn't scream. He didn't rage wildly. His restrained emotions were infinitely more terrifying than a shout. He looked at Sarah, reading the absolute guilt and sheer terror flooding her eyes.

The motive became crystal clear.

David’s tech empire was worth nearly eighty million dollars. By law, the vast majority of his trust fund was destined for his firstborn child, Mia. Sarah, a woman obsessed with wealth and status, couldn't stand the thought of her own biological daughter, Lily, taking second place in the inheritance.

She couldn't bring herself to actually murder Mia, so she chose something far more twisted. She locked the child in the hidden, soundproof service crawlspace, feeding her just enough garbage to keep her alive while waiting for David to eventually declare his missing daughter legally dead.

"David, please," Sarah whispered, her face completely pale as she backed away. "She's lying. The toddler is making things up. You know kids have wild imaginations!"
