Chapter 1 - The Wedding Where Bianca Cut Emma’s Dress to Pieces

The private beach looked like something out of a magazine that afternoon—white floral arch, cream aisle runner, flower baskets, gleaming banquet tables, and a small wooden boat set near the ceremony area as decoration. But the moment that stayed with me had nothing to do with beauty.
It started with Bianca.
My seven-year-old daughter, Emma, stood crying in her white flower girl dress while Bianca Vale towered over her in a wedding gown, a pair of silver scissors clenched in her hand. Before I could reach them, Bianca started slashing at the bodice and hem.
Snip. Snip. Snip.
The dress tore apart in jagged strips. White scraps floated down onto the sand. One narrow embroidered strip came loose and remained caught in Bianca’s hand. The blade grazed Emma’s skin just enough to leave a faint red scratch.
Emma cried out through tears, “Grandpa...”
Bianca glared down at her and said coldly, “Your family doesn’t belong here.”
I ran straight to Emma and pulled her against me, trying to shield her tattered dress with my arms. My father, Raffaele Moretti, saw the ruined fabric, the scratch on Emma’s skin, and the tears on her face. His expression changed instantly. He stepped in front of us and moved straight toward Bianca and Gregory.
He shrugged off his charcoal-gray suit jacket and threw it onto the sand.
Gregory stepped forward to block him. “Control your family, or leave my wedding right now.”
Then Gregory grabbed my father’s arm.
My father looked down at that hand once.
Just once.
Then he drove a hard right hook into Gregory’s face.
Whack.
Gregory reeled backward and slammed into the small wooden boat. The lightweight thing exploded into broken planks around him, and he fell amid the wreckage, dazed.
Bianca screamed and came at me with the scissors raised.
My father caught her wrist, knocked the scissors aside, and then delivered one brutal kick that sent her flying backward into the white floral display.
Crash.
Flowers and petals collapsed across the sand.
Then he stood in front of me and Emma like a wall.
His voice was low and deadly.
“Touching my family is the last mistake you’ll ever make.”
Gregory struggled to rise from the broken boat.
But then he suddenly froze.
His eyes locked on the embroidered strip from Emma’s dress lying among the petals.
And all the arrogance in his face vanished.
May you like
What replaced it was terror.
