Chapter 10 - The Trustees Stopped Everything

The trustees did not care about anyone’s feelings.

That was exactly what made them useful.

Once our attorney submitted the heirloom strip, Gregory’s midnight admission, and a petition for recognition of Emma’s status pending paternity testing, the trust board acted fast.

Within twenty-four hours, all discretionary decisions involving the private beach property were frozen.

Any transfer connected to Gregory’s upcoming marriage was paused.

Two planned board votes tied to Gregory’s control were postponed indefinitely.

And a formal notice was sent requiring Gregory to appear for review.

He lost his mind.

Not publicly, of course.

Publicly, he stayed polished and careful.

Privately, he called my father three times in one day, then left a message saying:

“You’re destroying more than you realize.”

My father played it for me and said dryly, “Good. That means we finally found the right pressure point.”

The paternity test was scheduled that same week.

Gregory tried to negotiate before it happened. He offered support payments, tuition, property, privacy agreements—everything except the one thing that actually mattered.

Truth.

He never once said, “I was wrong.”

He never once asked to see Emma because he missed her.

He asked because he wanted control.

That was the moment any remaining softness I felt toward him died for good.

I wasn’t fighting for revenge.

I was fighting because I finally understood what men like Gregory feared most:

May you like

a child who could no longer be erased.
