Chapter 8 - Bianca Tried to Save the Wedding, But Gregory Was Saving Himself

The wedding never happened.
Not really.
Officially, it was “postponed due to a private family emergency.”
Unofficially, the whole thing blew apart within forty-eight hours.
Bianca wanted the reception salvaged. Her parents had investors there. Society columns were already circling. Caterers had been paid. Guests had posted photos before the chaos started. She wanted to push through the embarrassment and reschedule as quickly as possible.
Gregory wanted one thing only:
Containment.
He stopped answering Bianca’s calls for half a day and met instead with trust attorneys, family accountants, and a crisis consultant. That told Bianca everything she needed to know.
She didn’t matter.
Not compared to the danger Emma represented.
The first public crack came when Bianca cornered Gregory outside a trustee office and screamed loud enough for two assistants to hear:
“You told me that child had no claim!”
That sentence traveled faster than either of them expected.
By nightfall, three versions of the story were floating through their social circle. In one, I was Gregory’s secret ex. In another, Emma was his hidden daughter. In the ugliest version, Bianca had attacked a child to protect her engagement.
That last one was the closest to the truth.
My father heard all of it, then made one decision:
We weren’t hiding anymore.
The next morning, he called our attorney and told her to begin formal proceedings.
Gregory had spent seven years acting like silence protected him.

He was about to learn that silence only lasts until somebody stops cooperating with it.
