Chapter 14 - Bianca and Gregory Turned on Each Other Exactly as Everyone Expected
Once the trust ruling was official, their alliance didn’t survive the week.
Bianca claimed Gregory deceived her.
Gregory claimed Bianca escalated things on the beach and caused the public scandal.
Their lawyers circled each other. Their families blamed each other. People who had toasted their future suddenly pretended they barely knew them.
The funniest part—if anything about it could be called funny—was how quickly their love story became an accounting problem.
Bianca wanted compensation for the ruined wedding, reputational harm, and “fraudulent concealment.”
Gregory wanted the ring back and silence.
Neither got what they wanted.
The trustees’ ruling made the wedding merger useless. The beach property remained tied to Emma’s protected share. Bianca’s social standing took a hit after several witnesses gave statements about the scissors. Gregory’s internal family standing dropped even lower after the board learned he had spent years concealing a child while negotiating trust matters.
As for my father, he finally let himself say what he had wanted to say from the beginning.
“They were never in love,” he told me one evening. “They were in business. They just confused greed with romance.”
He was right.
And once greed stopped paying, there was nothing left between them.
By then, though, I barely cared what happened to either of them.
Because the center of my life had shifted.
It wasn’t about bringing them down anymore.
