Chapter 7 - The Burner Phone Connected the Messages to Julian

The prepaid phone found beside the baby’s crib became the key.

Julian claimed it belonged to Claire.

Claire said Julian gave it to her “for emergencies.”

Investigators extracted the message history.

Most communications were between Claire and Julian.

But there was another number.

The anonymous source who had supposedly been warning Claire about me.

Messages like:

He met the lawyer again.

Don’t confront him yet.

He plans to act once the baby is one year old.

You need to leave before he controls the narrative.

Claire believed the source was someone inside my office.

Phone records told a different story.

The anonymous number and Julian’s regular phone repeatedly connected to the same towers within minutes of each other.

Then investigators recovered a cloud backup from Julian’s laptop.

The anonymous number had been activated through an account tied to one of his old email aliases.

Claire stared at the report.

“No.”

Nobody answered.

She read it again.

“He told me this person worked for Marcus.”

Officer Davis asked:

“Did you ever speak to the supposed source?”

“No.”

“Voice?”

“No.”

“Only text?”

Claire nodded.

Julian had not merely encouraged her fear.

He had manufactured the evidence that created it.
