Chapter 2 - Cullen Had Written the Rules After Mireya’s Last Emergency

The “rules” were not wedding rules.

They were medical.

Six months earlier, Mireya had been hospitalized after a respiratory episode became serious much faster than anyone expected.

Afterward, her pediatric pulmonologist gave the family a written action plan.

Cullen treated it like law.

If Mireya began wheezing, an adult stayed with her.

Her prescribed rescue treatment started immediately.

Nobody removed a mask because she cried or resisted.

Nobody changed doses without medical instruction.

A backup mask stayed inside the medical bag.

A second rescue kit traveled with Margaret whenever she cared for Mireya.

And most importantly:

If someone believed Mireya was exaggerating symptoms, they still treated first and discussed it later.

Cullen had repeated that rule directly to Tove.

More than once.

Tove always answered:

“I understand.”

Now she had ripped away a working mask in the middle of an episode.

That was why Cullen said she had broken every rule.

But Margaret knew something Cullen did not.

May you like

Tove had been breaking them for weeks.
