Chapter 14 - SABRINA FIGHTS BACK

Sabrina stopped cooperating quietly the moment Nathaniel’s lawyers described her as the architect of the entire scheme.
She hired her own forensic accountant.
Then she brought messages. Not screenshots alone. Full exports. Metadata. Attachments. Dates.
Her first point was simple.
Nathaniel had told her to create Croft Strategic Initiatives.
He had encouraged her to invoice through the company because, in his words, “foundation payroll is too visible.”
That sentence sounded damning. Then context.
Some of the work genuinely belonged outside payroll. Event production. Donor strategy. Brand consulting.
Still, “too visible” revealed motive. Then another message.
SABRINA: Are these fees board approved?
NATHANIEL: They’re approved by me.
SABRINA: That wasn’t my question. No answer.
She had known enough to ask.
Then kept taking money. That mattered.
Her lawyer did not pretend innocence.
He argued allocation of responsibility.
Then the wedding ring.
Nathaniel gave it to her six weeks before the gala.
He said Adeline had agreed to separate privately after the fundraiser. False.
Sabrina wore it at the gala because Nathaniel told her the public transition was happening that night. Cruel.
But again, he had designed the scene. Then the bracelet.
Sabrina admitted taking it. No excuse.
She called it “the ugliest thing I did.”
Adeline believed that apology more than the others because it contained no defense.
Then the drugging allegation.
Sabrina produced location data showing she left the Albright house nearly two hours before Adeline became visibly impaired.
That did not eliminate possibility of tampering earlier.
It weakened the assumption.
She also showed Nathaniel had access to the family medication drawer. So did staff. No conclusion.
Then the four-point-two-million mystery.
Sabrina swore Croft-Harbor Recovery LLC was not hers.
Her brother denied ownership.
Corporate records traced manager to a Nevada services firm.
Beneficial-owner filing was sealed pending investigation.
Nathaniel said he did not recognize it.
For once, mistress and husband looked equally confused.
Then Sabrina slid her phone across the table.
“If I’m going down, Nathaniel is not rewriting me as the only liar.”
The messages she produced did not clear her.
They widened the circle.

One name appeared repeatedly in the entity-formation thread. Michael Grant. The former CFO.
And the final unexplained payment had been authorized two days after he secretly retained his own lawyer.
