Chapter 10 - The Airline Finally Heard What Tyler Had Done

My lawyer advised me to go through formal channels.

So I did.

I submitted proof of my legal marriage, Mason’s birth certificate, and documentation showing Tyler had misrepresented his family status while maintaining an active marriage and dependent child. Julia submitted her own written statement, along with photographs and copies of messages where Tyler repeatedly referred to Sarah and Mason as dead.

I did not contact the airline out of revenge.

I contacted them because Tyler had turned an aircraft cabin into the stage for a personal lie. He had used his uniform, authority, and access to support deception on a scale that bled into his workplace. People trust pilots with lives. Character matters.

The airline suspended him pending investigation.

He called me the same afternoon, furious for the first time.

“How could you do that?”

I nearly laughed.

“How could I do that?”

“You’ve made this bigger than it needed to be.”

That line told me everything about him.

A secret second child? Understandable complication.

A three-year lie about your wife and son being dead? Bad judgment.

Stealing your wife’s inherited money? A marital issue.

Professional consequences? Somehow my cruelty.

I ended the call.

That evening, Mason asked whether Dad was still flying planes.

“Not right now,” I said.

He sat with that.

Then he asked, “Is he in trouble because he lied?”

“Yes.”

Mason looked down at his toy airplane and nodded once, slowly, as though absorbing a law of the universe that had to be learned early or not at all.

Maybe that was the only good thing Tyler accidentally taught either of his sons.

Sooner or later, lies land.
