Chapter 12 - Tyler Tried To Destroy My Credibility Next

When desperate men can no longer defend their actions, they often attack perception.
Tyler’s lawyer filed early claims suggesting I was emotionally unstable after discovering the affair and that I was overreacting in ways that could disturb Mason.
I stared at the paperwork in disbelief.
My lawyer didn’t.
“She’s baiting him,” she said calmly. “Let him overplay it.”
And he did.
During a temporary support hearing, Tyler implied I had become “erratic” and “fixated.” He used careful language, polished language, language designed to sound reasonable instead of cruel.
Then Julia testified.
She sat in a navy dress, hands clasped, and told the court she had believed Sarah and Mason were dead because Tyler said so repeatedly over three years. She confirmed Ethan was Tyler’s son. She confirmed Tyler paid for their household using funds he described as related to his “deceased family’s estate.” She confirmed Tyler publicly welcomed Ethan as his son on the Atlanta-to-Chicago flight while Sarah and Mason were in the cabin.
The hearing room went still.
Tyler’s lawyer tried to paint Julia as a jealous ex-partner.
Julia didn’t flinch.
“I’m here because two little boys are paying for one man’s lies,” she said.
Then my attorney produced the financial records.
By the time the hearing ended, the issue was no longer whether I was reacting emotionally.
The issue was whether Tyler had engaged in intentional financial misconduct while concealing an ongoing dual-family deception.
Outside the courtroom, Tyler finally looked scared.
Not because he might lose me.
Not because he had hurt Mason.
Because he was losing narrative control.

And for a man like Tyler, that was the most frightening thing in the world.
