Chapter 10 - Ethan Regretted What He Did to the Table

Ethan had not hit anyone.

But smashing tableware frightened Claire.

It frightened several guests too.

The next morning, Ethan looked at the broken porcelain piled into boxes by the house staff.

“I shouldn’t have done that.”

Claire was surprised.

“Your mother slapped me.”

“I know.”

“You were angry.”

“I know.”

He looked at her.

“That doesn’t mean throwing glass around was smart.”

Claire said nothing.

Ethan continued:

“I want to be the man who stands beside you. Not the man who makes the whole room afraid because he’s angry.”

That distinction mattered.

He arranged to pay for the damaged tableware himself instead of letting Robert quietly replace everything.

Then he started therapy.

Not because Claire threatened to leave.

Because, in his words:

“I don’t want defending you to look like another version of what Mom calls love.”
