Chapter 11 - Evelyn Had Known Celeste Was Denise’s Daughter Before the Juice

Mom confessed something too.
She had become certain of Celeste’s identity three days before the hospital confrontation.
She found an old photograph online through a community obituary page.
Denise standing beside a teenage Celeste.
Same eyes.
Same unusual crescent-shaped scar near Celeste’s right ear.
Mom planned to tell me in person.
Then Celeste overheard her leaving me a voicemail:
“Graham, I remember who she is.”
That changed the urgency.
Celeste knew once I learned the connection, every symptom she had documented would be questioned.
So she pushed harder.
The orange juice was supposed to leave Mom heavily sedated before I arrived.
Celeste could then say Evelyn had become exhausted and confused again.
Maybe I would postpone the conversation.
Maybe the hospital would recommend psychiatric or cognitive observation.
Maybe the truth would lose another day.
Instead Mom refused the glass.
Celeste lost control.
And the quiet manipulation became open violence.
Sometimes elaborate deception ends because the person running it gets impatient.

That was exactly what happened.
