Chapter 13 - The Board Did Not Give Me the Clinic Either

I did not “win” Dad’s company in one dramatic meeting.
That would have repeated the same problem.
Instead, the board paused the ValorBridge transaction.
An independent valuation began.
Conflict disclosures were reviewed.
The clinic hired temporary outside leadership while Vanessa stepped away from day-to-day executive authority during the governance investigation.
She retained her ownership.
So did I.
Nobody magically stripped her of everything.
The board eventually concluded she had breached internal disclosure requirements and improperly represented the status of my ownership to the buyer.
She did not return as acting CEO.
The ValorBridge transaction expired.
Months later, Vanessa and I negotiated a separation.
Not emotionally.
Financially.
A group of existing physician partners and a veteran-focused foundation financed the purchase of part of Vanessa’s interest.
I retained my stake.
Several physicians gained equity.
The clinic moved away from a two-sister control structure that Dad had built for a different time.
It was slower.
Messier.
More realistic than revenge.
May you like
And far healthier.
