Chapter 8 - The Clinic Sale Had a Deadline Vanessa Never Mentioned
Independent counsel requested all communications with ValorBridge.
That revealed the pressure.
Vanessa had promised the buyer signed transfer documents before Friday.
Three days away.
ValorBridge believed Vanessa already had control in principle.
One email read:
My sister is emotionally attached to our father’s legacy, but she will sign once she understands there is no viable alternative.
Another:
Grant’s involvement will neutralize veteran-community concerns.
Then came the message that explained the office confrontation.
ValorBridge’s attorney had written:
We cannot proceed while Evelyn retains blocking rights.
Vanessa replied:
I will resolve Evelyn this week.
Resolve.
Not persuade.
Not negotiate.
Resolve.
That was why the blue folder was already waiting on Dad’s desk.
Vanessa expected me to sign because she believed three years of diminishing my role had worked.
She thought I was isolated.
She thought Grant would support her.
She thought questioning my service would humiliate me enough to make me defensive instead of careful.
Instead, she dropped the one object into a water glass that connected me directly to the man whose credibility she intended to use against me.
