Chapter 10 - Elena Was Cruel To Mia Because Mia Wouldn’t Stop Remembering
Cole wanted silence.
Elena wanted control.
That difference mattered.
When Mia first recognized Laura’s ring, Cole wanted to stop wearing the jewelry around her.
Elena refused.
Messages showed the argument.
She’s seven.
She remembers everything about Laura.
Then tell her she’s wrong.
Elena began doing exactly that.
Whenever Mia mentioned Laura’s things, Elena corrected her.
Whenever Mia insisted, Elena accused her of being dramatic.
When Mia cried, Elena called her manipulative.
The cruelty escalated because Mia kept remembering accurately.
Then came the family dinner.
Mia saw the ring again.
This time she said loudly:
“That’s Mommy’s ring.”
Several relatives heard.
Elena pulled her aside.
Mia refused to take it back.
Later, when Mia became upset, Elena accused her of “playing the victim.”
Then kicked the brace.
The ring fell.
And the entire strategy collapsed because the object they had spent months telling a child she imagined landed directly at her feet.
