Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Betrayal

An extreme, cinematic close-up focused tightly on Lily's face.
She looked up at Dominic, trusting him completely to protect her from the monster in the closet.
"He said Rossi will never see it coming," Lily whispered flawlessly, repeating the chilling words with perfect, innocent accuracy. "And he said... when he turned on his flashlight... he had a silver snake ring on his hand."
The cinematic realization hit Dominic with the force of a nuclear bomb.
He didn't gasp. He didn't flinch. The absolute, terrifying restraint he showed was infinitely more dangerous than pulling a weapon.
His lifelong right-hand man, the man who controlled his entire security grid, the man who was currently walking toward him in the hallway, was actively coordinating a massive, highly calculated assassination attempt. Victor had used the secret tunnel to bypass the perimeter guards, planning to kill Dominic in his study and seize total control of the empire tonight.
Dominic slowly raised his head. His expression completely shifted.
The gentle, concerned protector vanished. The cold, demonic, calculating apex predator fully awakened.
He looked directly down the dark hallway at Victor.
